Wideband Yaesu FT857D UK MODEL

I double checked that my hard record of the alignment menu settings was
up-to-date - same settings as it left factory with (just in case things go
horrible wrong). I then used FTBASICMMO to backup my memory settings, this needs
to be exported to cvs file as supposedly you can't reload a modified radio with
a previous normal record (as noted in ftbasicmmo help).
Initial state of the links (note the funky order, anyway left to right)

NC = not connected C = Connected
1003 NC   (Left most link in photo)
1002 C
1001 C
1006 C
1005 NC
1004 NC
1009 NC
1008 C
1007 NC (Right most link in photo)
I removed the two 0 ohm resistors at 1002 and 1001 and using a 17W fine tip iron
I sweated them back onto the pads at 1009 and 1007 to achieve the link states as:

NC = not connected C = Connected

1003 NC   (Left most link in photo)
1002 NC
1001 NC
1006 C
1005 NC

1007 C   (Right most link in photo)
I double checked my work by measuring continuity and open circuit where they
were supposed to be.
The radio needed to be master reset by powering up with the V/M and Func buttons
depressed. Radio is now widebanded. Imported my csv memory file into FTBASICMMO
and stored memories back into the radio.
Initially my ATAS120 antenna wasn't functioning at all, I set it up in the menu
and after INIT it just sat on WAIT then puked with HSWR. Not sure what fixed it
(maybe just changing it in the menu again and turning on/off radio) but it works
as per normal now.
None of the alignment menu settings has changed since before the mod. I forgot
to look but I guess the auto repeater shift ability is gone as that is part of the country specific setting which the mod removes.

Updated feb2010 to add the following:

HF:
TX on 1.800 MHz through to 33.000 MHz no breaks.

VHF:
TX on 33.000 MHz through to 56.000 MHz no breaks.
TX on 137.000 MHz through to 164.000 MHz no breaks.

UHF:
TX on 420.000MHz through to 470.000 Mhz no breaks.

You will probably find that other link mods that differ from the one detailed above will set the radio to country specific ham bands only, i.e US region with its extended 2m coverage rather than going the whole hog and opening up out of ham band TX frequencies which we have no business using the radio on anyway.
